Italian unions sign deal with Amazon

Transport unions from all the main Italian confederations have signed an agreement with e-commerce giant Amazon covering employees delivering its parcels.

Under the deal, reached on 28 May, Amazon has agreed to apply the limits on the use of temporary workers and subcontractors set out in the national agreement for transport of goods and logistics.

Amazon has also promised to introduce a system of bonuses which will take account of the quality of the service provided, and to make organisational changes to cut the number of parcels drivers are expected to deliver at peak times.

It was the sharp increase in the number parcels that lead to a strike and demonstration earlier in the year.
