MPs call for ‘urgent action’ two years on from Grenfell

The government has been “far too slow” in reforming the building and fire safety regime and is still not doing enough to remove dangerous cladding from buildings in the two years following the Grenfell Tower fire, according to MPs.

A housing, communities and local government select committee’s report criticises the ongoing and unacceptable delay to the removal and replacement of dangerous cladding from high-rise and high-risk buildings and calls for urgent action.

The committee says delay and prevarication in reforming the building safety regulatory system “creates an unacceptable risk of another devastating tragedy.”
