Portugal’s minimum wage

The Portuguese government is to increase the minimum wage from the current €600 a month to €635 from January 2020. This is a 5.8% increase at a time when prices are effectively stable (0.04% annual increase in October). However, the unions were unwilling to give backing to the increase when it was discussed with the government on 13 November. The largest confederation, the CGTP, described it as “insufficient”.

€1 = 86p on 19 November
