February pay rises down

Pay settlements edged down in February and worse is almost certain to come with the coronavirus effect.

In February, the median pay increase in collectively agreed settlements from LRD’S Payline database was 2.5% — down from the revised lower figure of 2.6% for January.

The private sector matched the overall increase, but the public sector increase was 0.3 percentage points greater.

Official figures for average weekly earnings in January for the regular pay (excluding bonuses) in the whole economy showed a 2.8% increase after three increases of 3.2%.
