New regulations set out non-compliance penalties

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No. 4) Regulations 2020 came into force on 5 November 2020, the start of the new national lockdown in England. They impose restrictions on leaving the house, with exemptions including going out to work, and on gatherings. They also require a number of businesses, including in the hospitality and leisure sector and non-essential retail, to close, and impose restrictions on other businesses. They will be in force for 28 days and enforced by the police and local authorities. Enforcement is mainly through fixed penalty notices, ranging from £100 to £10,000, although prosecutions are also possible.
