AWEs improve

Average weekly earnings continue to grow but there is continued weakness in Covid-hit sectors.

Our data shows an across the board increase in October, but this is still based on very thin data. The increase has largely been driven by the public sector and services.

In October, the median pay increase in collectively agreed settlements from LRD’S Payline database stayed a consistent 2.5%.

Official figures for average weekly earnings in September for regular pay (excluding bonuses) in the whole economy rose to a much healthier 2.8% from 1.7% the month before. Public sector pay is up again to 4.3% from 3.8% and growth in the private sector is improving and now stands at 2.4%. Construction is up but remains in negative territory at -1.2%.
