Tips for service

The European Court of Human Rights has confirmed that employers have the right to pocket tips for service where they are paid by credit card or cheque made out to the employer.

The court ruled that other than when tips were paid in cash, they remained the property of the employer who has the right to offset them against any contractual payments due to the employee.
