Features: Law Tribunal Procedures

Submitting applications

Case 1: The facts

Mr Gill placed his application in a general letter box at the front of the building where the tribunal had its offices. This caused a delay meaning that it did not reach the tribunal office until after the time limit for submitting applications had passed.

The ruling

The EAT held that by posting the letter in the general box the application had been properly submitted and was thus in time.
