English for speakers of other languages

The TUC is running a workshop on 5 March aiming to raise awareness of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

It is intended to complement current work underway with Union Learning Representatives (ULRs) on the equalities dimensions of their role.

As well as raising awareness, the workshop will look at how unions and ULRs can play a key role in assisting workers who do not have English as a first language, the wider implications of language problems, and the relevance of this issue to the union organising agenda.

Case studies will be used to highlight and illustrate issues.

The workshop is being held on Friday 5 March 2004, 10am to 4pm at Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LS.

The TUC website has an online booking form at www.tuc.org.uk. For further information contact Barbara Taylor, tel: 0151 236 2331, email: [email protected]
