Croydon's star rep gets award

The TUC's annual Organising Rep Award for 2004 went to Melanie Jenner of civil service union PCS, for recruiting and organising hundreds of staff in the Home Office Croydon branch.

Jenner carried out a workplace study and recruited 50 new members, then arranged training for over 45 new reps - targeting members from under-represented groups such as women and ethnic minorities. During the recent Home Office pay dispute she ran a campaign which led 400 civil servants to sign up to PCS.
