Safety reps prevent asbestos exposure

Prompt action by safety reps last month prevented workers being exposed to asbestos.

CWU communication workers' union reps at the Royal Mail Northern Home Counties Distribution Centre intervened when British Gas asbestos waste bags were delivered to the centre.

The bags were quarantined and subsequently removed by an asbestos contractor. It was found that British Gas engineers had wrongly used the Royal Mail network for disposing of waste.
