Union sounds alarm over latest centralisation news

Communications workers’ union the CWU has announced the “grim” news that half of the grade employees it represents in BT’s Corporate Units HR Colleague Experience and Delivery Teams will be placed “at risk” in BT Group’s first redundancy announcement of 2021.

According to the union, staff were left reeling by an announcement last week that 57 personnel will be affected by a major reorganisation that will see functions centralised into Bristol and Birmingham.

Although not presented to the union as stemming from BT Group’s so-called “Better Workplace” site rationalisation plan, the CWU says it cannot be divorced from that programme – which aims to close hundreds of sites across the country over the next four years, concentrating the vast majority of its operations into just 30 key locations nationwide.
