Unions win pay out

Transport union the TSSA and general union Unite have both won at the employment tribunal against Thomas Cook over the failed travel firm's absence of consultation before making redundancies – meaning that thousands of former employees could claim as much as £4,200 from the Insolvency Service.

Unite assistant general secretary for legal services Howard Beckett said: “Our members have finally received redress for the financial losses they suffered from Thomas Cook’s collapse."
