Disability Clearkit

A government initiative aimed at tackling employers concerns about recruiting disabled people now has more than 200 employers signed up to its online service. Employers, such as telecoms giant BT, energy companies E.ON and South Eastern, and the UK Border Agency and HM Revenue and Customs, have worked with the government’s commercial partner The Clear Company to create the Disability Clearkit, an online service that shares best practice and offers advice.

Although it was initiated by the government in partnership with the Employers’ Forum on Disability, the service has been developed by employers for employers. It highlights postive examples, such as retailer Poundland, which has recruited 198 disabled employees in a single year and where the turnover of disabled recruits is 4%, compared with 48% of non-disabled recruits.
