Doncaster care workers

Care workers in Doncaster employed by contractor Care UK have been threatened with pay cuts of up to 50%.As Labour Research went to press, a consultative ballot by the UNISON union was underway.

Care UK is part of Care UK Health & Social Care Holdings. The company took over the contract to care for 130 people with learning disabilities last September.

The 245 staff were transferred from the previous contractor and Care UK has now declared that pay enhancements are to be scrapped.

In the year to 30 September 2012, the group had 15,659 employees who were paid an average of £20,097 a year, including social security and pension costs.

Meanwhile, the highest paid director received £700,000.
