Momentum and PCS

A bid for the PCS civil service union to join Momentum — the campaign group set up to support Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn — has been rejected by the union’s annual conference.

A motion calling for PCS — which is non-party political — to affiliate to Momentum fell by 90,677 against with 34,260 in favour.

The mover, Delia Mattis, said: “Momentum supports Jeremy and John [McDonnell] who support our policies on jobs and pay.”

Opposing the motion, Colin Mack welcomed the “fundamental shift in the Labour leadership in the last 12 months with the election of Jeremy Corbyn”, but noted that “there’s also been a fundamental shift north of the border, and Labour in Scotland has become a toxic brand”.
