Mary Turner

Mary Turner, who had been elected president of the GMB general union for the past two decades, passed away last month after a short illness.

One of her greatest passions was her campaign for free school meals which was recently embedded in Labour Party policy.

She was a fighter on many fronts, however. The union said: “From feeding 600 young marchers during the people’s March for Jobs in the 1980s, to fighting the National Front and leading, recruiting and supporting thousands of low-paid workers, Mary has led our movement.”
