Co-op union to merge with Usdaw

Members of the NACO co-operative union, which largely represents managers at the Co-operative Group, have voted to merge with the 430,000-strong retail union Usdaw. The transfer is set to take effect in May this year.

NACO , with just 1,200 members, celebrated its centenary year in 2017, but felt it now needed the security of being part of a large union. Members voted by 82% in favour of the merger in a 24% turnout.

NACO will join with Usdaw’s Supervisory, Administrative and Technical Association (SATA). Interim general secretary Bob Lister said: “It means that NACO members will continue to be protected by a strong and respected voice within the Co-op, where both our unions have represented staff for many years.”
