Ethnic pay gap


Black male graduates earn on average 17% less than white men, the equivalent of £7,000 when working full-time, a report from the Resolution Foundation finds, while for Pakistani and Bangladeshi male graduates the pay penalties is 12%.


Opportunities knocked? also found that black female graduates face a “pay penalty” of 9% — roughly £3,000 on a full-time basis — compared to their white peers. 


Much of the debate around the disadvantages that ethnic minorities face focuses on education, but Kathleen Henehan, research and policy analyst at the foundation said: “We should focus just as much on what is happening in the workplace. Tackling racial disadvantage should be a priority for businesses, as well as schools and universities.”
