Inflation steadies

Falls in food and clothing costs were offset by rising utility bills as petrol continued to rise. Nevertheless, under the Retail Prices Index, inflation was steady at 3.3% in October. This is the measure favoured by union negotiators.


Under the Consumer Prices Index Housing (CPIH) measure, the inflation rate was unchanged at 2.2%.


Meanwhile, the inflation rate under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) was unchanged at 2.4%.
