Polish work to rule

Poland’s largest teachers’ union, ZNP, has called on its members to work to rule in the latest stage of its campaign for better pay and less school bureaucracy.

A September poll of union members saw 55.3% giving their backing for not carrying out non-contractual duties.

However, only 18.6% supported a renewal of the all-out indefinite strike which had been suspended at the end of April.

Teachers are being urged not to take part in extra activities such as out-of-school activities. The aim, the ZNP explains, is to show parents “how much we do for not much money”.
