Climate report

A new report by the PCS civil service union sets out the changes the union believes are needed in the Department for Transport (DfT) to make it ready to meet the challenges of climate change.

The Alternative vision for transport: integrated, planned, and green, warns against the DfT’s “ideological fixation with outsourcing”.

The study is based on the findings of a report by the non-departmental public body, the Committee on Climate Change, that highlights transport as the highest-emitting sector of carbon dioxide.

It calls for an affordable and collectively-based public transport system and for the renationalisation of bus and rail services.
