Polish nurses’ strike

Polish nurses from 40 hospitals took part in a two-hour strike on 9 June to press for higher wages.

The government has introduced legislation intended to provide a minimum wage for all workers in health.

But the main nurses’ and midwives’ union, OZZPiP, argues that it fails to provide a stable basis for increased pay for nurses and midwives.

Union president Krystyna Ptok said that this is “despite numerous signals from members of our union pointing to the gross deterioration of their working conditions and pay and the stress, exhaustion and occupational burnout which has gone on for many months”.
