Regulators ill-equipped over safety of fracking

New research from the University of Stirling has found little evidence to back up government assertions that fracking in the UK will be safe as a result of industry best practice and “robust” regulation.

One of the study’s conclusions is that “the evidence from peer-reviewed papers suggests fracking in the UK will not be effectively regulated. It is highly likely that regulatory agencies may lack the staffing and resources necessary to monitor and enforce effective regulation of the industry”.
