Defence contractor commits to young

BAE Systems has committed to train a record number of apprentices and take on over 500 new apprentices this year.

More than 2,000 apprentices, totalling 6% of its workforce, are currently being trained across the defence contractor’s operations with a further 574 set to be recruited in September this year.

Len McCluskey, general secretary of the Unite general union, welcomed the commitment and called on other firms to learn from BAE’s lead.

McCluskey said that the “world class” apprenticeships were a vote of confidence in the nation’s young people.
