Transport union membership drive

The RMT has embarked on a major organising strategy for 2017 with the aim of increasing membership in every sector and grade in which the union organises.

Last year, senior officials and activists agreed that that all branches and regions should plan a branch organising day around 13 June — the birth date of the late general secretary Bob Crow. The day is to be part of branch organising plans that have been required of all 221 branches following a rule agreed at the union’s 2015 annual general meeting.

The idea of a branch organising day was proposed by RMT South Essex branch secretary Derrick Marr, who said: “This event should be promoted every year along with other annual events in order to create a worthwhile memorial to Bob Crow and hopefully achieve the total membership figure Bob aspired to achieve of 100,000.
