ETUC calls for pay rise to make up for lost ground


A campaign for higher wages throughout Europe to drive economic growth and tackle inequality has been laucnched by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). 


The call, made at a conference in Brussels mid-February, drew attention to the fact that wages have not been keeping pace with increrases in productivity and that the share of wages in national income has been falling. 


Luca Visentini, the ETUC general secretary told the conference: “Europe needs to talk about pay rises … Pay rises are essential to get Europe out of low or no growth.”
