Pay and prices

2% the norm


It was as you were in March with a 2.0% increase on basic rates.


The three-monthly median increase on lowest basic rates remained at 2.0% in March, the same rise as for early 2017most of 2016, analysis of LRD’s Payline database of collective agreements shows.


However, RPI inflation has been rising at a greater rate — 3.1% in March and 3.2% in February - so workers’ living standards continue to take a hit.


All the various sectors posted a 20% increase in March, apart from the public sector where the increase was 2.2%.
