Police staff stressed

A poll of civilian police staff carried out by the GMB union found that more than 70% are suffering from work-related stress.

More than half of GMB members blamed stress on poor management and an absence of leadership, with many reporting that management “don’t care”.

“The levels of stress felt by these hardworking public service workers are not acceptable,” said GMB national officer Kevin Brandstatter.

The union called on management to take action to identify the causes of stress and take action to eliminate it and to undergo a programme of training in the appropriate way to manage civilian staff.
