Bank of England strike

Staff at the Bank of England have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action — the first for 50 years.

The workers’ union — Unite — has informed the Bank that its members working in the maintenance, parlours and security departments will be taking four days of strike action commencing 31 July.

The dispute centres on the imposition of a 1% increase in the “pay pot” for the year from March 2017, without the agreement of Unite. The amount that an individual will receive is then decided at the discretion of line managers, so that employees could receive less than 1% and some will receive no rise at all.
