Wider Prospect at Babcock

Prospect, the specialists’ union, has reached agreement with Babcock Mission Critical Services to extend union recognition to mechanics as well as licensed engineers.

Earlier this year, Prospect won recognition at the Central Arbitration Committee for the company’s 78 licensed aircraft engineers, after a long campaign and a ballot in which the overwhelming majority of eligible engineers voted for recognition.

Now, however, the company has voluntarily agreed to extend the deal to the mechanics who work alongside the engineers, and Prospect will negotiate on their behalf on pay, leave and hours of work.

Meanwhile, the GMB general union has won recognition for 21 workers at Wigan-based steel products firm William Hare without needing to hold a ballot.
