CWU campaign target is 100%

The CWU communications union is about to start a campaign to get 100% union membership in its union-recognised workplaces in telecoms and financial services.

The union’s October organising and recruitment drive in the sector netted more than 300 new members (see Workplace Report, October 2017, page 7), and it is now moving on to maximise membership in the sector through its Target 100 campaign.

The aim is to sign up into membership everyone who benefits from the union’s collective bargaining successes. The union says: “Those successes, after all, are directly related to the union’s negotiating strength that is, in turn, largely determined by membership strength.”

CWU deputy general secretary Andy Kerr said recruiting the “missing members” is important both for their own protection and for existing members, as it means the union “can invest even more in its quest to defend and further their interests”.
