Rates for National Minimum Wage in 2019


New rates for the National Minimum Wage have been announced by the government.


The statutory National Living Wage — the National Minimum Wage for older workers aged 25 and over — will increase by 4.9% to £8.21 an hour from £7.83 from 1 April 2019.


The 2019 National Minimum Wage rate for 21- to 24-year-olds is to rise by 4.3% or 32p an hour to £7.70 and the rate for 18- to 20-year-olds by 4.2% or 25p an hour to £6.15. 


Younger workers aged 16-17 will see their rate rise by less — a 3.6% rise or 15p an hour increase take their rate to £4.35.


The Apprenticeship Rate, which applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year, increases by 5.4% or 20p an hour to £3.90. 


The Accommodation Offset, paid where employers provide accommodation, increases by 7.9% or 55p to £7.55 a day.
