Royal Mail pension scheme gets green light

The CWU communication workers’ union has welcomed the government’s promise to allow the CWU/Royal Mail Collective Defined Contribution pension scheme to go ahead (see Workplace Report, December 2018).

The CWU pushed the idea of introducing such a scheme in Royal Mail and developed it with the employer. However, such a scheme requires enabling legislation to be put into practice.

Following consultation, work and pensions secretary Amber Rudd has promised to bring legislation forward when parliamentary time allows.
