Nurses’ union in organising push

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is aiming to mobilise its members and train 25,000 of them as organisers by the end of 2022. The move comes in response to the government’s proposal for a 1% pay rise in the NHS in England.

The RCN will offer a six-week training programme. This follows a decision to establish a £35 million strike fund should members decide to take industrial action.

RCN chief executive and general secretary Dame Donna Kinnair said: “Our members are determined to be ready for all eventualities this summer. If politicians choose to ignore the need for a pay rise for NHS staff, this training will give us greater skills to organise, mobilise and use the power we have.”
