Sellafield inquiry
Unions representing nuclear industry workers welcomed the announcement of an urgent inquiry into the revelation that, from the early 1960s until the late 1990s, vital organs were removed from deceased radiation workers at Sellafield and other nuclear sites, apparently without the consent of their families.
Paul Noon, general secretary of professional workers' union Prospect, said: "The government has recognised the need for speed and openness in clarifying exactly what happened. For the sake of the families that is vitally important." National officer for manufacturing union Amicus, Dougie Rooney, also welcomed the decision and said that the union hoped to be able to make representations to the investigation. He called on the government to make public all the findings and recommendations.
