Co-op derecognition sparks GMB fury

Co-operative FuneralCare has derecognised the GMB general union after more than 100 years of recognition. The GMB slammed the move as "disgraceful, outrageous and unworthy of the co-operative movement", saying it was taking place because the union "is vigorous in pursuing our members' interests".

The GMB has 260 members at Co-operative FuneralCare, which also recognises USDAW, the T&G, NACO and UCATT unions; none of these has been derecognised. The company says its decision "reflects a more coherent approach to union relationships within the organisation".
