Police pay

For the second year running, pay levels for police officers are to be considered at an arbitration hearing, due to take place on 2 November, although the Police Federation of England and Wales is also calling on members to lobby MPs over pay.

The Federation countered a pay offer of 2.325% with its own claim for a 3.94% rise. The pay indexation arrangement for police officers has been under review by Sir Clive Booth, who in February proposed a “public sector facing index” rather than the previous arrangement linked to private sector trends. The Staff Side claim included an element of compensation for the move from a private sector index to a public sector index “at a disadvantageous time when public sector average increases are falling and private sector increases are rising”.
