In two separate pay deals, one covering custody officers and the other covering senior custody officers, salaries (which vary by area) rise in stages by up to 4% in the first year (beginning 1 October 2001) and by up to 3.25% in the second year.

The agreements provide for flat-rate payments for Saturday working and flat-rate payments (minimum four hours) with a day off in lieu for public holiday working.

The senior custody officers' controllers allowance rises to £1,000 for all areas (£1,100 in 2002) while the mileage rate is 20p per mile (rising to 25p in October 2002).

The PCV allowance for custody officers is £584, rising to £600 in October 2002.

By 2003, unpaid time off in lieu is to be reduced and it will be paid when it exceeds eight hours (rather than 20).
