Date when a contract begins

A contract runs from the date when the employee starts work not from when it is formally signed, which may be some time later. In the case of Dunn v Rove Sports (EAT/1197/99) the employee had been working for some time before being asked to sign a contract but this did not change the date from which the contract ran, according to the EAT.
