New welding research commissioned

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to investigate exposure to contaminants released during the hot gas welding of fluoropolymers, following reports of a flu-like illness in workers, known as polymer fume fever or teflon flu.

Recent information has indicated that at least 4,000 people are working for companies using fluoropolymers. The first stage of the work will be completed by the autumn and the HSE then intends, if necessary, to investigate methods for controlling the pollutants.
