Support for repeal of Section 28

Lesbian and gay campaign group Stonewall has produced a campaign pack for lobbying in support of the government's proposals to repeal Section 28. Repeal of this notorious anti-gay legislation, introduced by the Thatcher government to prevent local authorities from "promoting homosexuality", is included in the government's Local Government Bill, currently going through parliament (see page 21).

However there has been strong opposition to the repeal from elements within the Conservative Party, and from right-wing religious groups such as the Christian Institute. The Stonewall campaign pack includes information on getting your local trade union involved, as well as information on campaigning with schools and the local authority.

Stonewall can be contacted on 020 7336 8860 or by e-mail at [email protected].
