Metalworkers strike in Italy

Key Italian engineering plants came to a standstill on 10 June as the result of a four-hour stoppage called by the metalworkers' unions. The unions, in contrast to two years ago, are taking a common position, and are calling for a €130 (£87) increase in monthly pay, equivalent to 7.8% increase over two years. The employers are offering 3.6% and have criticised the government for agreeing to a 5.01% increase for public sector workers.
