Step closer for recognition law

Implementation of the long-awaited trade union recognition law came nearer last month as codes of practice on union access to workplaces and on collective bargaining procedures were laid before parliament. In addition all members of the Central Arbitration Committee, the body that will oversee the law, have now been appointed. There are 39 appointees, including seven deputy chairs. Among the employee members is UNIFI deputy general secretary Sandy Boyle, Fire Brigades Union general secretary Ken Cameron, Margaret Prosser, deputy general secretary of the transport union T&G, and Keith Sonnet, assistant general secretary of UNISON.
