Delegates back repeal of anti-union laws

Congress re-affirmed its opposition to anti-union legislation and called for a raft of changes covering recognition, industrial action and rights to representation in response to the government's review of employment law.

Delegates gave a rousing welcome to strikers from the Friction Dynamex automotive components plant in North Wales. The strikers have been out for over a year. The employer sacked them after eight weeks on strike, as soon as their legal protection ended. The TUC and their union, the T&G general union, want to see the government take urgent action to end the employers' right to dismiss strikers.
