Danish unions back Euro

Denmark's largest union confederation, LO, is backing the country's participation in the single currency. In a statement issued last month the general council of LO accepted that entering the euro would mean that Denmark would "give up her possibilities of pursuing an independent monetary and exchange rate policy". However, it argued that this had not been a real option for many years and that entering the euro would "enable Denmark to have a greater say with respect to the economic policy pursued".

The decision to back the euro was taken by a large majority in LO's general council and means that LO will be calling on its members to vote for the single currency in the national referendum to be held on 28 September this year.
