Spanish unions sign deal on domestic violence

Spanish unions at the car-maker PSA Peugeot-Citroen have signed an agreement providing a practical framework to a recent law on violence against women.

The law, which was passed in Spain last December, aims to provide support to women facing domestic violence, through a series of measures including prevention, education and victim support.

The agreement reached with PSA Peugeot-Citroen last month is intended to ensure that the company delivers such support to its female employees. It covers shift options, flexible working, hours reductions, holidays and time off, as well as the possibility of transferring to another site within the group.

The company has also committed itself to complete confidentiality in dealing with women facing domestic violence, and has agreed that employees who deal with domestic violence issues will be fully trained.

The unions involved have published the agreement, with the aim of encouraging other employers to reach similar arrangements.
