Equal pay
Despite a quarter of a century of equal pay law, the pay gap has not disappeared. The June issue of the Labour Research Department (LRD) negotiators' magazine, Bargaining Report, examines what has been happening to equal pay claims over the last 12 months.
Among its main findings are that relatively few new equal pay cases were lodged this year; that unions seem to have diverted their attention more towards negotiated settlements; and that there continues to be a very low rate of success at tribunals.
