Back pain pay-out of £78,000

A crisp factory worker has received a £78,000 pay-out after a back injury forced her to quit her job.

The worker, a member of general union GMB, was employed by snack firm KP Foods on Teesside. She complained of back pain after working on a wrapping machine but was not removed from her post despite telling her team leaders and the company nurse.

The union backed her in taking court action, and a week before the trial was due to begin the firm made an out-of-court offer.
