Recognition claims

The latest annual report from the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC), the body with responsibility for statutory trade union recognition, says that the number of new claims for recognition has fallen over the last year. It also reveals that cases "have not proved as straightforward to handle as the earlier applications. Up to the end of March this year unions had submitted 255 applications for recognition. Of these 150 had been accepted and only 21 rejected. Although the CAC has only awarded recognition in 58 cases, another 24 have been withdrawn after a voluntary deal was concluded.
